The San Francisco
branch of the ACLU
wanted to expand local
high school students’
appreciation of our civil
liberties. They decided
to establish an annual
student art show based
on a list of personal
liberties issues. The
posters were placed in
school hallways and had
to compete with a lot
of other visual informa-
tion in brief moments
between classes. We
developed an image
that drew their
attention rather than
shouting for it.
